Amal Madibbo is Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Calgary. Her research focuses on Francophone immigration in minority communities, race and anti-racism, as well as ethnic relations in sub-Saharan Africa. Holding a PhD from the University of Toronto, Amal is the author of Minority Within a Minority: Black Francophone Immigrants and the Dynamics of Power and Resistance (2006), as well as the editor of the collection titled Canada in Sudan, Sudan in Canada: Migration, Conflict and Reconstruction (2015). Among other projects, she is currently collaborating on a major study of best practices for the integration of Syrian refugee children. In 2018, Amal received an award from the Embassy of Sudan in Canada in recognition of the ties she has developed with Sudanese universities.
